In the summer, the pool seems to lose about 2 or 3 degrees of heat overnight. We tend to run the pool at 28 degrees, so a temperature of 25 or so was typical in the morning. This meant that the air source heat pump would need to run every day, with electricity cost and noise implications.
I decided to look into where the heat was being lost on the pool, and bought a Flir One Pro LT thermal imaging adapter for my mobile phone. This was the result.

I knew it was never going to pay back in terms of energy costs saved, but I was keen to run the air source heat pump as little as I could to also reduce noise, so I decided to invest in some insulation.
