Pool Steps

So time to think about options for pool steps for above ground pools. I wanted something that looked decent and was functional. The plastic ones that came with the pool were neither of those things. They were huge, plastic, looked awful, didn’t stay where they were supposed to be, probably would have damaged the pool in time, and were not compatible with decking up to the edge/underside of the edge of the pool.

Because of the decking we needed a different option. The helpful folk at Pool Supplies in Farnborough built me some stainless steel steps with base cups that I could screw down into the deck frame. I think the result looks good. Note that this only works because I can anchor the steps into the cups that are screwed down into the deck frame not just the deck boards. Also, the steps rest on the pool edge and this is only OK because I have reinforced underneath the pool edge so the weight is on the deck not the pool side. You must never put weight on these edge pieces if that is going to transfer onto the wall of the pool. The pool wall will crumple very easily if you do.

It is important to get the steps for your pool right. It is obviously vital that people can get out of the pool easily. And that they cannot get stuck behind the steps too. Please consult a professional supplier/pool installer.
